Illuminated handrail lighting at Sheffield Hallam University

Written by kirsty

TRT Lighting has supplied more than 250 metres of illuminated handrail lighting for three new academic buildings at Sheffield Hallam University’s City Campus.

Developed by BAM Construction, the buildings bring together several faculties within modern, digitally enabled teaching and research facilities designed for contemporary higher education.

As part of the internal building services design, all staircases required continuous illuminated handrails to support safe movement through the buildings while maintaining a clean architectural aesthetic.

TRT worked with Thorlux Lighting to deliver a fully integrated solution, providing a continuous line of low-level light along the staircases while incorporating emergency lighting functionality.

The project demonstrates how integrated handrail lighting can improve safety, enhance wayfinding and integrate seamlessly with modern building design.
