Altura – Illuminated handrail reimagined

TRT proudly delivered the tunnel lighting for the Silvertown Tunnel, supplying our high-performance X-Range luminaires throughout both bores. Designed and manufactured in the UK, the system provides safe, efficient and reliable illumination, supporting driver comfort, operational resilience and long-term sustainability on this landmark London infrastructure project.

The upgrade of Horsefair Underpass from outdated SON and fluorescent luminaires to state-of-the-art X-Range Boost models not only reduced energy costs and enhanced visibility but also ensured compliance with Annex D of BS5489-2:2016. This adherence to regulatory standards underscores TRT’s commitment to delivering solutions that prioritise both functionality and compliance.

684m long Holmesdale Tunnel opened in 1984 and was initially refurbished in 2010 with high-pressure sodium lamps as LED luminaires were not viable at the time. With advancements in LED technology, a new retrofit solution now provides significant benefits such as annual energy savings and, of course, CO₂ reductions predicted to be greater than 60%.

This MUGA lighting upgrade replaced outdated floodlights with energy-efficient LED systems, improving illumination, reliability, and safety. Designed for community use and environmental sensitivity, it reduces energy consumption by 85% while supporting extended, sustainable sports activity.

The exterior lighting across this 900+ dwelling development was identified for upgrade. The existing installation was assessed, and a tailored lighting scheme implemented, enhancing visibility and safety – a strong example of how upgrades can be both practical and sympathetic to the setting.

Haverfordwest’s new pedestrian footbridge connects the riverside with the emerging western quayside as part of Phase 2 regeneration. TRT’s integrated solution features illuminated Altura handrails, low-level Oaken luminaires, and intelligent controls, providing safe, controlled lighting in a sensitive riverside environment.

Sustainable lighting installed in Derby’s Oakwood Park using DarkSky International-accredited Oaken lanterns to reduce energy and carbon, support wildlife, and helping achieve net zero goals.

TRT Lighting are proud to have supported Lincolnshire County Council in their ambitious drive to upgrade their public lighting to LED technology. As part of this initiative, Balfour Beatty Living Places have replaced the existing ceramic metal halide lamps along Brayford Wharf North with TRT’s Luz lantern.

As part of the development of three major new academic buildings at Sheffield Hallam University’s City Campus, TRT Lighting provided more than 250 metres of illuminated handrail lighting across staircases serving the new facilities, working alongside sister company Thorlux Lighting.
