Sensitive lighting for Haverfordwest’s new footbridge
A new pedestrian footbridge in Haverfordwest is helping connect the town’s riverside area with the emerging western quayside development, forming part of the wider Phase 2 regeneration programme.
Delivered for Pembrokeshire County Council by Walters UK, the scheme required a carefully balanced lighting strategy. Spanning the Western Cleddau, the bridge is located in a sensitive riverside environment where illumination levels had to support safe access while limiting obtrusive light.
TRT Lighting provided an integrated lighting solution combining illuminated Altura handrails, Oaken low-level luminaires and intelligent controls. Ten 6W Oaken fittings at 2700K operate at 50% output as standard, rising to 100% on PIR activation before dimming back down, ensuring light is delivered only when needed. Bespoke handrail fixings were developed in collaboration with Walters UK to integrate seamlessly with the bridge structure.
Warm colour temperatures, controlled optics and dimming strategies create a cohesive, low-glare scheme that supports public use while respecting the surrounding habitat.
