Introducing the S12-compliant R-Range tunnel luminaire

TRT Lighting has launched the R-Range, a robust, S12-compliant LED luminaire engineered specifically for road and rail tunnels.

Built for demanding locations where safety, fire performance and maintenance access are critical, R-Range combines robust construction with a maintenance-led design and intelligent control capability.

S12 compliance for tunnel safety

R-Range has been developed in line with S12 fire safety requirements, which govern fire performance in sub-surface and transport environments, and set strict controls on material behaviour, smoke generation and flame spread.

Low plastic content construction, EN45545-2 approved gaskets and optional ceramic terminal blocks support compliance in rail and transport schemes where fire integrity is paramount.

This makes R-Range suitable for projects where both performance and regulatory assurance are essential.

Engineered for real-world maintenance

In tunnel environments, access is rarely straightforward. Closures are expensive, disruption must be minimised, and maintenance windows are often restricted.

R-Range has been engineered with this reality in mind, combining practical on-site access with remote monitoring via our Lumi-LinQ wireless lighting control system to support proactive maintenance.

The luminaire features tool-less access for quick entry on site. The optical assembly, incorporating the LED optic system, is supplied as a complete unit that can be plugged into position. This enables rapid replacement without disturbing the main housing, simplifying servicing and reducing time at height.

At the rear of the luminaire, the driver is mounted onto a removable steel plate secured by two captive tool-free fasteners, allowing fast removal without specialist tools. This enables the drivers to be replaced independently of the optical chamber, reducing downtime and improving service efficiency.

Safety retention mechanisms secure the door during servicing, preventing accidental opening and providing reassurance when working in confined or elevated conditions.

This modular approach supports faster installation, maintenance, lower labour time and reduced whole-life cost.

Built for harsh environments

Transport applications demand durability.

R-Range is constructed from 316L stainless steel body, offering C5M corrosion resistance in environments exposed to moisture, pollution and temperature variation.

With an IP66 ingress protection rating and IK08 impact resistance, the luminaire is sealed against dust and high-pressure water jets, ensuring reliable performance in challenging conditions.

Operating temperatures from -20°C to +40°C further support dependable year-round performance.

The luminaire is designed in compliance with BS-EN-IEC60598 series of standards, offering additional assurance for specifiers working across infrastructure projects.

Intelligent control with Lumi-LinQ

R-Range can be integrated with lighting control, enabling smarter operation across tunnel networks.

From adaptive dimming strategies to energy optimisation and remote monitoring, Lumi-LinQ helps operators balance safety, visibility and energy efficiency. This makes the luminaire suitable for both continuous operation environments and schemes seeking improved energy performance without compromising compliance.

DALI dimming options are also available, offering additional flexibility depending on project requirements.

Performance and retrofit continuity

Available in multiple wattages, R-Range delivers outputs up to 3,314 lumens with specialised optics suited to tunnel applications.

A rated life of 100,000 hours (L90/B10) further supports long-term performance.

The luminaire has been developed as a practical, like-for-like replacement for existing tunnel luminaires, featuring common fixing centres and twin cable glands suitable for 3-core 16mm² SWA cable. This simplifies retrofit schemes and reduces installation time in live or restricted-access environments.
